A flipped classroom is where teachers provide video lectures for the students to watch at home prior to class. When the students get to class the teacher spends time on exercises, projects and or discussions. So basically what is usually done in the classroom and what is done at home is reversed. To use flipped classroom the teacher does not have to flip the entire class. The teacher can pick what areas they feel this method will be more beneficial for their students. Some people think this would get rid of lectures but that is not necessarily the case. The main lectures can be administered through a video and the teacher can have mini lessons if they feel it is needed to clear up any confusion. Another misconception is that the technology will replace the teacher. Again this is not necessarily true. Although the lectures are given electronically, they are given by the teacher. The teachers are still administering what goes on in the classroom as well. They are just able to spend one on one time with their students instead of spending the class time lecturing. The teachers roles just transition from being an instructor to a facilitator. I think that the flipped classroom can change education. It will allow teachers to get a chance to work with every student in the class. It turns learning into a conversation between the teacher and students. It also gives teachers more opportunities to assess the students by observation. I think it is important to have reflection on a lesson like you would in a traditional classroom. Keeping the videos short will help keep your students engaged in the video. If you choose to transition your class, it is important to explain the transition to the parents and students. I personally think this method is a great option for my future classes. I like how it allows the teachers to be more aware of their students understanding on a topic.
